Hemmroids are enlarged blood vessels or veins within the area of the rectum or anus which are usually caused by constipation. This condition involves severe pain during defecation and oftentimes results in bleeding. It causes a lot of discomfort even when sitting, walking, and cleaning the rectal area.
Too much strain during bowel movement eventually results to hemmroids. The pressure caused by this strain forces the blood to move toward the veins in the anal area resulting to the bulging or swelling of the blood vessels. During defecation, the hard stools may rupture the surrounding membranes of the veins causing it to bleed.
Hemmroids is a condition that is hard to get rid of. One alarming fact of it is that it gets worse and worse if not given immediate treatment. If the individual having hemmroids usually experience constipation, the possible cause of it would be his diet. Unbalanced diet leads to many health problems and constipation is always on the list.
People who suffer from hemmroids are usually advised to eat sufficient amount of fibrous food. This is necessary to avoid fecal impaction which leads to constipation. Fruits and leafy vegetables are some of the recommended foods which will help in relieving hemmroids.
The following are lists of foods recommended for patients suffering from hemmroids:
Papaya, banana, oranges, mango, kiwi, apple, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, apricots, pears, pineapples
Cabbage, carrots, sweet corn, spinach, broccoli, lentils, kidney beans, cucumber, asparagus, onion
Grains and Nuts
Almonds, sunflower seeds, brown rice, whole wheat, barley
Muffins, whole wheat bread, all bran, buns, bagels, grain bread
Aside from having sufficient amount of fiber in diet, fluid intake also has a significant role in prevention and relief of hemmroids. The recommended amount of water intake a day is six to eight glasses. Fruit juice is advisable except watermelon or other beverage that could change the color of the urine because this might be confused as blood during medical examination and could lead to erroneous diagnosis.
Avoid drinking caffeinated drinks such as coffee, cola, chocolate shakes and alcoholic beverages because this could lead to dehydration and would result to constipation.
Foods high in trans fats or cholesterol are not advisable to eat as well because they could result in obesity. People with overweight problem have greater tendency to acquire hemmroids because of the weight loaded on their lower extremities and this causes much pressure on the rectum during bowel movement.
